Three things worth doing today

Speed up a slow laptop

Nine times out of ten it is a mechanical hard drive, not the processor. An SSD swap is the cheapest upgrade in computing, and it feels like a new machine.

Keep malware out

Cracked software and flash drives passed around the office are how most machines get infected. Keep Windows updated, and scan anything that arrives on a USB stick.

Back up before it dies

Drives fail without warning. Keep two copies, one of them off the machine. We do recover data — but recovery always costs more than a backup would have.
