The Federal Government has announced that starting next year, Nigerians will have the convenience of receiving their passports at their preferred locations, including homes and offices. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed this during the inauguration of the 2023 University of Lagos International Week. Ojo stated, “We have initiated the automation of our entire passport application process, and we have set a timeline for Nigerians to enjoy a more efficient experience. Consequently, individuals will no longer have to endure a waiting period of more than two weeks to obtain their passports.”
Starting from January next year, Nigerians can complete their passport application online. By February, in collaboration with various partners, the government aims to deliver passports to homes, offices, and chosen locations. The same convenient process will apply to visa applications, with the integration of technology for a smooth experience. Plans are underway to establish additional visa application centers globally.

“We’re enhancing our visa-on-arrival policy and working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on reciprocity principles. A committee is in place for this. We’re also committed to restoring the integrity of travel documents through data harmonization. Currently, there’s duplication in registrations like BVN, international passport, NIN, and SIM card data. We aim to streamline and harmonize these for data integrity.”
