Jada Pinkett Smith has once more discussed her future with estranged husband Will Smith after disclosing their secret separation since 2016. The actress, who revealed this surprising detail in her memoir “Worthy” last month, also emphasized their shared intention to uphold their lifelong commitment to each other.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore, 48, suggested to Jada Pinkett Smith that it seemed like she and Will were intending to ‘stay together forever.’ Jada responded, ‘We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried,’ alluding to the years-long separation she and Will kept discreet from the public.
In an earlier revelation, Jada expressed her commitment to ‘not leaving Will’s side,’ emphasizing that he is equally committed to ‘not going to leave’ hers.
Meanwhile, Will openly acknowledged the ‘very, very long and tumultuous [relationship]’ he shares with his wife in front of a sizable audience at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. Describing it as ‘brutiful,’ he remarked, ‘It was brutal and beautiful at the same time,’ as reported by the Baltimore Sun.
In October, Jada confessed that she made the decision to stand by Will’s side during the 94th Academy Awards when he slapped Chris Rock in 2022. Reflecting on the intense reaction, she shared on The One Show, ‘I knew it was going to be an intense reaction. And that was the moment that I decided that I was going to stay by his side. You know, it’s funny how intense situations can amplify love, and it was a pretty difficult time, but it definitely drew us closer. So yeah, it’s crazy how things work.
She further explained, ‘Will and I have chosen a relationship that aligns with our desires. We went through our separation, and then the Oscars happened, altering our trajectory significantly. However, I won’t say it’s in a traditional way. We decided to be together in a manner that suits us.
In her revealing memoir, she details how the dynamics of her marriage with the renowned actor Will shifted after the Oscars incident. The couple had discreetly separated six years before the event, with Jada admitting, ‘I’m not thinking in a million years he’s getting up on stage, and it has anything to do with me!
Speaking to Red magazine, she elaborated, ‘That’s when your relationship gets deeper than romance or all the complications that come with marriage. I was just really concerned about Will. And I realized in that moment that, as challenging as our relationship can be, I’m always going to be by his side, no matter what.
