The father of the three victims of the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash, Chief Dr. Andy Ilabor, has passed away.
Dr. Ilabor, a devout Catholic from Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, peacefully passed away in his sleep on Monday, November 27th, 2023, just two weeks before the 18th anniversary of the tragic plane crash.
His three children, Chuka, Nkem, and Buso, all students of Loyola Jesuit College Abuja, were on board the ill-fated plane that crashed at the Port Harcourt International Airport on December 10, 2005, claiming the lives of 106 people, including their schoolmates.
Friends, family members, acquaintances, and colleagues have offered heartfelt tributes to the late medical doctor, portraying him as a person with a sweet disposition, a peacemaker, and a team player.
“Sudden and Painful Passing of Sir Dr. Andy Ilabor – A profound loss has befallen us with the untimely demise of the distinguished Medical Doctor, seasoned Politician, and former Director General (DG) to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. Andy Ilabor. Dr. Ilabor departed in the early hours of Monday, 27th November 2023,” expressed Onianwa Austin.
“The abruptness and intense sorrow of this death are deeply felt. Oh, Death, where is your sting? Why do you snatch away from us our friend and brother precisely when we needed him most?
“Sir Dr. Andy Ilabor was not just a friend and brother; he was a fearless truth-teller, unafraid to speak boldly regardless of consequences. He eagerly shared in people’s joyous occasions or moments of trial, displaying lavish generosity and possessing a sweet disposition. He was quick to discern the distinctions between the adult world and the world of children and youths, embodying complete integrity.
“O Father, Dr. Ilabor’s passing inflicts serious pain and an excruciatingly irreparable and irreplaceable loss upon his family, brothers, sisters, friends, and especially his wife.
“Our solace lies in the realization that we can fill much of the void created by your departure by living lives guided by the virtues that endeared you to many.
“Yes, Andy, you may be physically absent, but your memories will forever remain vibrant in the pages of history and the tales of remarkable individuals with an admirable commitment to excellence.
“Ilabor, we love you, but God loves you more, hence your early call to eternity. Rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ, Sir Dr. Andy Ilabor, until we meet to part no more. Amen.”
